The Maui Okinawa community observed the ending of 2008 with its annual bonenkai at the Maui Okinawa Cultural Center. One of the highlights was the shisa mo-i or lion dance, done by Maui’s own keiki. Â Ukwanshin Kabudan provided a musical treat to bring some old tunes back for the senior members. Â It was really heartwarming to see the seniors singing along, dancing in their wheelchairs, and having a great time with the kind of music that just seems to always move them. Â You can see the program on youtube.com. Â Just look up Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai 80th Anniversary Bonenkai. Â Mahalo to Larry Yonashiro for the video footage.
